Coolstore

This 3,000 tonne capacity coolstore is situated on Z-Berth at the entrance to the Port of Lyttelton's wharf areas. It consists of two cold-store rooms, fitted with automatic-opening, rapid-rise doors which assist in maintaining a constant temperature of -25°C. This is monitored by computer-controlled temperature recording and a DMA log on temperatures is kept at all times.

Z-Berth, where the coolstore and offices are situated, has a length of 150 metres and a draft of 12 metres, which allows the company's large charter operation vessels to safely berth and unload. The modern and sophisticated coolstore complex is fully utilised by other port users for the storage of frozen product and adds a valuable facility to the Port of Lyttelton.

The site is also close to the Port's container wharves, where product is loaded for export. The coolstore operates in conjunction with both the Fleet Department and the Provedoring divisions of Independent Fisheries Limited in Lyttelton. These combined facilities are of major benefit to the Port's users.

In addition to the Z-Berth facility, the company has a 10,000 tonne export coolstore situated adjacent to the
Woolston plant.
